Route 2010:

Sam’s Point To Trapps Bridge

  1. Take right at fork on paved road
  2. At 1.07 take right at double blue blazes onto Ice Caves Road
  3. At 1.14 take left onto Verdeerder Kill Falls trail. Single track and rocky.  Teal blazed
  4. At 2.74 Cross Verdeerder Kill.  Don’t take double blazes on right.   Check out the falls.
  5. At 3.08 reach end of Verdeerder Kill Falls trail. Take Long Path to Lake Awosting straight ahead.  Teal blazed.
  6. At 3.81 Views of Mud Pond
  7. At 4.79 first views of Lake Awosting
  8. At 4.86 trail ends.  Go left
  9. At 4.90 reach Lake Awosting.  Go right
  10. At 5.53 reach Lake Awosting Beach. (closed until next season)
  11. At 6.04 end of Carriageway.  Go right towards Hamilton Point Carriageway
  12. At 6.56 take Hamilton Point Carriageway on right.  Possible yellow barrier
  13. At 6.89 reach Hamilton Point
  14. At 7.60 great view of Patterson’s Pellet with Skytop in the background.  (2 miles to Paterson’s Pellet, 10 miles to tower)  Gertrude’s Nose to your right
  15. At 8.38 pass Echo Rock
  16. At 9.10 end Hamilton Point Carriageway.  Go right towards Millbrook Mountain.  Yellow Marked
  17. At 9.57 pass Patterson’s  Pellet
  18. At 9.96 pass Gertrude’s Nose Trail on right.  Do Not Take.  Stay on Millbrook Carriageway
  19. At 11.09 reach end of Millbrook Carriageway.  Summit on right.   Check it out!
  20. Follow red blazed Millbrook Mountain Trail
  21. At 11.11 take left onto Millbrook Mountain Trail.  (follow sign with arrow for Lake Minnewaska)
  22. VERY IMPORTANT At 11.25 take blue blazed Coxing Trail on right
  23. At 12.74 reach Trapps Road. Go right
  24. At 13.74 arrive at Trapps Bridge

From Trapps Bridge

  1. Descend stone steps at the end of the bridge
  2. At 13.82 go right onto single track Shongum trail
  3. At 14.34 reach end of Shongum trail.  Go right on Old Minnewaska Trail
  4. At 14.75 cross gulley5.
  5. At 16.11 Undivided Lot Trail comes in on left.  Do not take. Stay on Old Minnewaska trail
  6. At 16.33 reach the end of Old Minnewaska trail.  Go left On Laurel Ledge
  7. Giants Path comes in on right at 16.34.  Go up. Giants Workshop Trail is a designated cheating zone rock scramble.  Staying on Laurel Ledge adds about 1.6 miles to your journey but will take you to the same place.  Your choice…
  8. At 16.62 reach Short Woodland Drive on left at a triangle intersection
  9. At 16.74 take a left onto Lake Shore Path1
  10. At 16.84 reach Mohonk Lake.  Go right
  11. At 17.03 cross Lake Shore Road onto Lake Shore Path heading for Spring Path
  12. 17.10 take a right onto Spring Path
  13. At 17.29 left onto red blazed rock scramble just before a gazebo.  Cedar arrow on post
  14. Follow red arrows through boulder field towards crevice
  15. At 17.33 enter crevice and ascend ladders to the top
  16. Exit Crevice at 17.53 Go right and across bridge.  Ascend following red arrows and climb stairs to Skytop Road. Go right
  17. Make your way to the entrance of Skytop Tower2
  18. Climb tower steps collecting a card from underneath a corner seat held up by concrete blocks down two flights of steps from the top of the tower
  19. Exit Tower and go right on Skytop Road
  20. At 18.15 pass lily pond on left-keep to the right on Skytop Road
  21. At 18.49 take Fox Path to Woodland Bridge on right  (single track)
  22. At 18.60 reach auto road.  Go right
  23. At 18.65 take second carriageway on right passing “Cars Do Not Enter” sign.  This is Terrace Carriageway
  24. At 19.19 enter old shale pit.  Pass remnants of old shack and cross auto road
  25. At 19.31 take Terrace path (single track) paralleling the auto road
  26. At 19.37 Terrace path crosses the auto road and continues on the other side
  27. At 19.73 pass horse barn on right
  28. At 19.80 reach Lenape Lane.  Go left and uphill
  29. At 20.00 reach Mohonk Mountain House Gatehouse

From The Gatehouse

  1. Down Mountain rest Rd. towards New Paltz
  2. At 20.27 miles take a left onto blue blazed Northeast Trail  (Follow pink ribbons)
  3. At 20.45 left onto blue blazed single track Northeast Trail
  4. At 20.81 cross the red blazed Bonticou Path.  Continue on blue blazed Northeast Trail
  5. At 21.15 cross yellow blazed Bonticou Ascent Path.  Bonticue ascent path on right is a certified cheating zone and may be taken.  It is a rock scramble up the face of Bonticou Crag.Non Climbers If you don’t want to climb Bonticou continue on Northeast trail and follow directions to Bonticue summit.  Adds about 1 mile…* get to a boulder covered with rock sculptures.  Ascend right staying on blue blazed Northeast trail.*take yellow blazed trail to Bonticou Summit.  Get card. For those who took the Bonticue ascent path…
  6. At 21.22 reach Bonticou Summit
  7. At 21.53 reach the end of the yellow blazed path and return to the blue blazed Northeast Trail.  Go right.
  8. At 22.19 reach the end of the Northeast Trail. (sign was missing) Go right and downhill on the Clearwater Road. (Follow pink ribbons)
  9. Stay on the remnant of the old Clearwater Road through wet swampy area.  At 22.62 cliffs on right.
  10. At 22.71 out of swampy area onto clean, clear carriage road.
  11. At 22.92 trail doglegs to the right and pass through rocky gap.
  12. At 23.03 take left off of Clearwater Road onto unnamed single-track.  There is a large stone block with a chalk arrow pointing to the left.
  13. At 23.27 trail comes in from the left to form a triangle.  Go right and downhill.
  14. At 23.50  break out into a farm field.  Stay on farm road to rail trail at 23.75.  Go left.
  15. Stay on pancake flat rail trail for 2.08 At 25.83 reach end of rail trail.  Go right and downhill on paved road.
  16. At 26.01 go left at church.
  17. Finish at bridge at 26.07 miles
